Safety is much more than a program, more than a set of policies and procedures. Safety
is a philosophy in action. The safety program at Anderson Drilling is a
value-based process that permeates the entire company. Our goal is continual improvement
through ongoing management of the safety process
- Accountability and safety metrics focusing on loss prevention efforts are part of
the performance review process. Examples of such safety metrics include management
completing periodic job site audits and attending toolbox talks.
- Hazard identification and control starts at the pre-bid phase and continues throughout
the job until its completion.
- At Anderson Drilling safety has no rank - employees are empowered to speak up about
safety anytime, anywhere using the Speak Up/Listen™ process.
- Safety training is a dynamic part of the safety process. Ongoing safety training
includes our injury and illness prevention program (IIPP), PPE, fall protection,
trenching and excavation, mobile equipment safety, avoiding pinch points, First
Aid, OSHA 10 Hour, Hazwoper, among others. All new employees go through a new hire
safety orientation before going to the field.
- Our Safe Plan of Action is a daily crew based job safety analysis lining out tasks
and associated hazards and the means to avoid or control these hazards.
- Incident management includes Apollo Root Cause Analysis. We believe incident management
should not only mitigate the effects of an unwanted event, but prevent recurrence.
- A safety reward program is in place at the district level. Eligibility for the award
is predicated on 100% adherence to set loss prevention measures. An individual-based
safety reward program is also in place.
Using both our Vision Statement as well as the ANSI Z-10 standard, at Anderson Drilling
our goal is continual improvement in the safety and health processes. We are constantly
looking for ways to eliminate incidents and injuries. Our efforts are paying off
in working more hours with fewer incidents – however - our goal is zero incidents
through continual improvement.
In addition to numerous commendations from General Contractors, we have also received
two important industry awards: the Safety Award for industry contractors working
more than 100,000 hours, and the International Association of Foundation Drilling
(ADSC-IAFD) Most Improved Safety Program Award.
One objective measure of a company’s safety results is their Experience Modification
Factor. Ours is currently an outstanding .59%. In addition to the drilling expertise
we bring to a job, we also provide a safety conscious work force committed to continuing
our strong safety tradition
